Bach Flower Remedies
the way Dr. Bach made them
About everything Bach himself wrote about Mimulus can be found on this page. The first text displayed is the last text he wrote, which he regarded as the final and complete description. The older texts are here so that you are able to study the development over the years in case you think this is interesting.

Bach Flower Remedy Mimulus

All Bach wrote about Mimulus

Wallingford Lecture (1936)

There are five types of fear, and therefore there are five remedies, one for each type.

The second kind of fear is more common: and is the one which applies to everyday life.

The ordinary fears so many of us get: fear of accidents, fear of illness, fear of a complaint getting worse, fear of the dark, of being alone, of burglars, or fire; of poverty, of animals, of other people and so on. Fears of definite things, whether there be any reason or not.

The remedy for this is a beautiful plant called Mimulus; rather like Musk. It grows in the clear running streams and along the banks. Some summers it grows in the stream at Ewelme, which runs alongside the road.

The Twelve Healers & Other Remedies (1936)

- *MIMULUS -

Fear of worldly things, illness, pain, accidents, poverty, of dark, of being alone, of misfortune. The fears of everyday life. These people quietly and secretly bear their dread, they do not freely speak of it to others.

- - *MIMULUS - Mimulus Luteus - Mimulus guttatus

The Twelve Healers & Seven Helpers (1934)

- MIMULUS -
When the patient is calm, but quietly afraid.

The English and botanical name of each remedy is as follows:

MIMULUS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mimulus luteus

These plants are in flower mostly during the months of July, August and September,

The following will give an idea of the places where they may be found,

MIMULUS is comparatively rare, but grows on the edges of marshes and streams where the water is clear.

The Story of the Travellers (1934)

Once upon a time; and it is always once upon a time, sixteen travellers set out to journey through a forest.

Later in the afternoon as they went deeper into the shadows, Mimulus began to be afraid, afraid that they had lost the road.

And in the end they all came through the forest.

Now they go as guides to other travellers who have not made the journey before,
Mimulus can know no fear;

FEAR -

To combat all fear. Fear of disease, of accidents, of unknown things. Fear of people, of relatives, of strangers, of crowds, of noise, of talking or of being questioned, of being alone. Fear of damp, of cold, of heat, of the dark. Fear of complications in illness, or of being incurable.

The botanical name of each remedy is as follows:

- MIMULUS - Mimulus Luteus

These plants are in flower mostly during the months of July, August and September.

The following will give an idea of the places where they may be found, and some counties have local botanical books which will be a clear guide for particular districts, as these books often give exact localities.

MIMULUS is comparatively rare, but grows on the edges of streams and marshes where the water is clear.

Twelve Healers (1933)

- 3. - FEAR - Mimulus

MIMULUS is full of fear. These people try feebly to escape their persecutors, but they seem hypnotised, and silently and without resistence suffer their fear. They generally make excuses for themselves.

- Remedy - Quality to develop - Fault
- Mimulus - Sympathy - Fear

Mimulus Luteus and Impatiens Royalei both grow to perfection near Crickhowell, a few miles from Abergavenny, though the former can be found in other counties.

Fear           Sympathy -

Are you one of those who are afraid; afraid of people or of circumstances: who go bravely on and yet your life is robbed of joy through fear; fear of those things that never happen; fear of people who really have no power over you; fear of tomorrow and what it may bring; fear of being ill or of losing friends; fear of convention; fear of a hundred things?

Do you wish to make a stand for your freedom, and yet have not the courage to break away from your bonds; if so Mimulus, found growing on the sides of the crystal streams, will set you free to love your life, and teach you to have the tenderest sympathy for others.

Nickie Murray in conversation with Julian Barnard (1986)

JB: Mimulus?
NM: Mimulus is also one of the original 12. It's for those people who are afraid of everyday things, fear of going to the dentist, the fear of being ill, fear of being poor, fear of having no money, fear of going down to the shops, fear of the hospital, fear of everyday known things. They are also people they describe... The Mimulus also describes those who are by nature shy, who blush easily, who are afraid of people, who feel ill at ease in a crowd, who are nervous, or anxious... everything to do with those ordinary fears of day-to-day life.

And again, the positive aspect of that... those people who have courage and are not afraid to do things in life.
JB: So what would be the difference between Rock Rose and Mimulus? If you saw somebody, how would you know which to choose?
NM: Oh, because the Mimulus would be probably the more popular remedy. It's something that pertains to a lot of us. Rock Rose in an extreme state, and one hopes that not too many people experience it, but it is an extreme state. Mimulus is a normal shyness and a normal fear. And the other is an exeptional one.
